The Department of Political Science at Shambhu Dayal (PG) College has a rich history dating back to the establishment of the college in 1962. The graduation course in Political Science was introduced right from the inception of the college, reflecting the institution’s commitment to providing quality education in this crucial field.

The department’s growth was rapid and impressive. In just three short years, it rose to the post-graduation level, further strengthening its academic offerings and cementing its reputation as a leading center for the study of political science.

Repution of Excellance
- Dr. P.M. Sharma
- He was the founder of the department. He single-handedly conducted the affairs of the department for the first three years.
- He is one of the longest serving teachers of the college and has contributed immensely in the field of research. He was selected as the UGC Research Awardee and served a stint of three years (25.07.89 to 24.07.92) in the Indian Institute of Advance Studies, C.C.S. University Meerut.
- Dr. N.K. Gupta
- Dr. N.K. Gupta joined the department in 1965 as incharge of the department and continued in this capacity till his retirement (1999).
- He was actively associated with “Friday Club” an Intra College academic body engaged in intellectual discussions.
- Dr. J.J.Pal
- Dr. J.J.Pal joined the department in 1967 and he remained the part of the department till 2002. His administrative capabilities are borne out by the fact that he served a long stint as the Chief Proctor of the college.
- He had a keen interest in the field of Indian Foreign Policy & International Relations. Near about 20 students completed their research work under his supervision.
- Dr. J.P. Garg
- He joined the department in 1974. But his association with the department was cut short by his untimely demise in 1993.
- His academic competency was reflected through his regular publications in Indian Council of World Affairs (New Delhi) and through his research work, which was also published as a book, entitled, “Regionalism in International Politics”.
- Dr. K.S. Singh
- Dr. K.S. Singh joined the department in 1974. His selection in Indian Civil Services in 1980 marked the end of his formal association with the department.
